Martang

Martang Pty Ltd is one of the Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs) determined by the Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Council. Their office is based in Halls Gap.

According to a press release from the Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Council on 13 September 2007:

'On 13 September 2007, the Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Council appointed Martang Pty Ltd (Martang) as a registered Aboriginal party (RAP) for the southern part of its RAP application area located in south-west Victoria.

The Council recognised Martang as an organisation representing Traditional Owners that was able to demonstrate strong traditional links to the area. The Martang application was accompanied by considerable support from members of the Djab Wurrung and neighbouring communities.

A significant number of Martang members live on Country and the organisation was able to demonstrate strong experience in cultural heritage management.

As part of making a successful application, Martang has agreed to review its corporate structure to establish broad representation of Djab Wurrung community interests.

The Council is continuing to consider the north western portion of Martang’s RAP application. This area is subject to overlapping RAP applications by other Aboriginal groups.'
