Dingee is a rural village 45 km north of Bendigo, on the railway line between Bendigo and Kerang. Pronounced 'dinghy', the name is thought to have been derived from an Aboriginal word meaning star.
The Dingee district did not undergo closer settlement until the railway line was opened in 1883. A school was opened at Prairie, 8 km to the north, in 1882. Dingee school was opened seven years later.
