Studfield
Studfield is a residential locality in Wantirna South, immediately north of the Knox City shopping centre, Burwood Highway. It is 25 km south-east of Melbourne, and adjoins Stud Road – hence the name. (‘Stud’ came from a police horse stud which existed southwards, next to the Dandenong Creek).
Studfield was settled residentially during the 1960s. Its primary school opened in 1965 with fewer than 200 pupils, and by 1969 it had over 650 pupils. Studfield East primary school was opened in 1971. By 1993 the first generation of families had grown up, and the first of the two schools was closed. It was developed as the Knox City housing estate. Studfield East (merged with Studfield and changed to Yawarra school and then Knox Central primary school in 2013) had 141 pupils in 2014.
Studfield has a local shopping centre on Stud Road, about 500 metres from the regional Knox City Shopping Centre (1977) and the adjoining business offices. Further north there is the Knox Club Hotel.
